Over Friesland
Friesland is the province located along the IJsselmeer and Wadden Sea. It is mainly on the mainland, but also includes a number of Wadden Islands. Because of its historical location - the part of Greater Frisia west of the Lauwers - it is also called Westerlauwers Friesland. In terms of total area (including water), Friesland is the largest province in the Netherlands. In terms of land area, it is third. The province is very low. The highest point on the mainland is the Bosberg near Appelscha (26 meters). With the Wadden Islands included, the highest point is at the Vuurboetsduin (45 m).
